Eddie Harrison & Frank Levy-Vegh, the faces of The Background Football podcast, take to the air to talk mainly about the Premier League. But hanging on the wall of their You Tube studio you’ll see an assortment of classic European and English football shirts. These guys are fans of all things retro. As Eddie says:
“A lot of the time we talk about the old football that we grew up with. We end up talking about nostalgic football, how it’s changed, stuff we miss.”
It’s no surprise then that when they were looking to design a special ‘Background Football’ shirt, they turned to the kings of classic kit, Kappa.
Eddie explains: “Me and Frank wanted to start a football show, and we wanted a kit to go with it. We thought about the kits we both like and the ones that inspired us are the old Kappa ones. Barcelona ’98, Real Bettis and so on, we wanted something along those lines. It was definitely the retro thing that brought us to Kappa.”
They worked with the Kappa designers to get the look they wanted and were very pleased with the result:
“We went back and forth with the Kappa guys to tweak the design. We wanted to keep it simple – hence the black and white – and came out with something we really liked. The classic retro look is what makes it.”
The boys are planning a shirt reveal in a forthcoming podcast. As for the future of the podcast, Eddie says that they want to get fans of different clubs onto the show. He is an Arsenal fan, and Frank follows Spurs so they’ll look to get an inside view of other teams through their fans.
Eddie says:
“We just want to see where we can take the podcast. We’re currently just on YouTube and will aim to go to Spotify in the future.”
